{"id":35110,"date":"2016-11-08T12:06:08","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T10:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=35110"},"modified":"2016-11-08T12:06:09","modified_gmt":"2016-11-08T10:06:09","slug":"ecama-gets-k1-million-boost-from-cdh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/08\/ecama-gets-k1-million-boost-from-cdh\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecama gets K1 million boost from CDH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>C<\/strong>DH Investment Bank (CDHIB) has given K1 million to support preparations for this year\u2019s Economics Association of Malawi (Ecama) annual conference scheduled to start tomorrow in Mangochi.<\/p>\n<p>Presenting the donation, CDHIB Chief Treasury Officer, Lusekero Mwamondwe, said her bank appreciates the role that economists play in shaping Malawi\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Mwamondwe said Ecama has boldly raised debates on pertinent issues affecting the Malawi economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCDHIB\u2019s interest in Ecama is obvious. We, like many banks, are players in the Malawi economy and more importantly, in the financial services industry, which is a major platform for the economic activities of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime and again, we usually see the president for the association bringing up discussions on social media platforms and hundreds of comments would follow. This shows that your contributions are being greatly appreciated,\u201d Mwamondwe said.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the donation, Ecama President, Henry Kachaje, said discussions at the conference will seek to find solutions to manage risks and protect the vulnerable in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe chose this theme because we felt like whatever policies we have been implementing as a country have been towards advocating for growth but have not been inclusive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been years when the county has registered economic growth but it has not translated into uplifting the lives of the most vulnerable,\u201d Kachaje said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the conference will focus more on discussing the policy direction that the country should take to realise inclusive growth that takes care of the needs of the most vulnerable in the society.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the speakers at the conference will include Jack Ree, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund, Richard Mussa, an economist and researcher and Juergen Voegele who is Senior Director for Agriculture Global Practice at the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB) has given K1 million to support preparations for this year\u2019s Economics Association of Malawi (Ecama) annual conference scheduled to start tomorrow in Mangochi.
