Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has been faulted for holding one-day trials to identify Malawi Under-20 National Football Team players with critics saying the system cannot produce good players.<\/p>\n
Fam conducted the trials across the country in a bid to have players for the Junior Flames side, which will take part in the 2016 Council for Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament slated for South Africa from December 7 to 17.<\/p>\n
Northern Region Youth Football Committee\u2019s General Secretary, Desire Bellings, said much as the exercise was successful in the region, the system is more complicated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe exercise went on well but it was very disorganised. At first we were told [by Fam officials] that players that will come from outside the [Mzuzu] city will be refunded their transport costs, but that was not the case,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition, the exercise took place within a day and it was cumbersome. And I feel that if the exercise was extended to another day or two, we could have had a wider range of players to select from.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bellings, whose region has produced seven players, therefore, said that Fam should consider organising a similar exercise in districts as most good players did not turn up for the initial exercise because they cannot afford covering transport costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
