Leaders need to change the employees’ mindsets and empower them so as to generate more innovative ideas which will in turn energise and transform our organisations into profit generating units for the growth of our business and in turn Malawi’s economy as a whole,” Tembenu said.

He said a more conducive working environment coupled with good leadership brings morale to employees and thus create opportunities for them to be innovative and develop hard working spirit among themselves.

“One, therefore, cannot afford to ignore the human capital as a productive unit in our businesses (the employees) who in turn use the other resources to realise true business success as a key to increasing productivity at work places.

As such, the country needs to energise business leadership in all sectors of the economy and also properly manage the human capital for this to be achieved for the development of the Malawi nation,” he said.

Tembenu said he learnt with interest the efforts by the institute to get the IPMM Bill passed into law.

Among others, the bill seeks to regulate the human resource management practice in Malawi.

“This is a very welcome and important drive and I personally commend it. I gather that such initiatives have already been implemented in our neighboring countries and surely we should not remain behind.

“I, therefore, urge you to push the process of finalising this Bill for the Parliamentary Committee to discuss it and take appropriateaction,” said Tembenu.

IPMM Immediate Past President, Crispin Chikwama, said business environments are constantly changing and a leader has to be environmental sensitive so as to detect the changes taking place around him or her particularly when it comes to change of behaviour of employees.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Samuel Tembenu, has challenged human resource managers in the country to provide a conducive environment for workers.
