{"id":35040,"date":"2016-11-07T11:17:15","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T09:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=35040"},"modified":"2016-11-07T11:17:16","modified_gmt":"2016-11-07T09:17:16","slug":"malawi-impressed-with-china-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/07\/malawi-impressed-with-china-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi impressed with China opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Malawi delegation attending the 2016 seminar on Machinery and Electronic Industry Promotion and Economic Development for Developing Countries, has said the opportunities offered by China in various industries auger well with Malawi\u2019s investment agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The three-week seminar has attracted participants from government departments and business people from four continents namely Africa, Latin America, Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar offers opportunities to developing countries to learn and experience how China grew its economy.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi is being represented by government officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Chiradzulu District Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chiradzulu District Commissioner Ali Phiri said there is a lot in common between Malawi and China in terms of development.<\/p>\n<p>He said Malawi has a lot of opportunities in various sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and manufacturing where China can take advantage of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Malawi National Export Strategy (NES) actually highlights these opportunities as there is an available market within the region in countries such as Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa,\u201d Phiri said.<\/p>\n<p>He further said the training has also been helpful to identify core areas where Malawi can focus on and engage potential partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLearning from industry captains from top Chinese companies has been an eye opener and will effectively enhance our skills in executing the policies we are currently implementing back home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Phiri, also noted that the policies China implemented to grow its economy are similar to those that the government is currently implementing.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the Buy Malawi Strategy (BMS), which is an almost similar strategy that has seen local companies in China contributing highly to the country\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is moving in the right direction by implementing the Buy Malawi Strategy, which has also worked here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the lecturers, we note that local companies are playing a big role in the development of China,\u201d Phiri said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Malawi delegation attending the 2016 seminar on Machinery and Electronic Industry Promotion and Economic Development for Developing Countries, has said the opportunities offered by China in various industries auger well with Malawi\u2019s investment agenda.
