Malawi government has started constructing a community college in Mangochi at a place which earlier this year, a grouping calling itself Concerned Muslims seized and turned it into a complex for Mangochi Muslim Jamaat, following reports that the place was being used by individuals.<\/p>\n
Mangochi District Commissioner (DC), James Manyetera, explained in an interview that the K190 million project is expected to be completed mid next year depending on the availability of funds.<\/p>\n
Manyetera said government is pleased to construct the community college in Mangochi in order to help the youth benefit from the project which President Peter Mutharika launched last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe place for the college was identified by our office in consultation with other relevant authorities. Due to the urgency of the project, we used a single-sourcing method to identify the contractor to work on the project,\u201d Manyetera said.<\/p>\n
Among other sections, the college will have motor vehicle mechanic, plumbing, woodwork and electrical departments.<\/p>\n
The construction of the college at a place formally belonging to the department of works has put to rest a protracted war about the ownership of the land, which some concerned locals claimed it belonged to them, while government on the other hand said the land belongs to it.<\/p>\n
At the height of the fight, police arrested some locals who had occupied the land after evicting some tenants who were occupying some offices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
