{"id":34622,"date":"2016-10-31T09:56:22","date_gmt":"2016-10-31T07:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=34622"},"modified":"2016-10-31T09:56:24","modified_gmt":"2016-10-31T07:56:24","slug":"lafarge-in-road-safety-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/10\/31\/lafarge-in-road-safety-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"Lafarge in road safety initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lafarge has embarked on a road safety campaign which, among others, will see the company training traffic police officers in emergency response to road accidents.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the close of a week-long training for traffic police officers in Ntcheu, Lafarge Chief Executive Officer, Albert Sigei, said training the officers is key to reducing fatalities on the country\u2019s roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Lafarge, we want a safe Malawi. So, apart from other activities that we are also supporting to promote road safety, we decided to train traffic officers\u2019 basics of first aid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe b y training the officers, we should be able to save lives as they [officers] are usually the first to reach an accident scene before hospital personnel,\u201d Sigei said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the sidelines of the training, Deputy Head of Traffic for Malawi Police Service, Pherson Nthenda, conceded that some deaths could be avoided if the service had adequate capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraining police officers in emergency response is very crucial. Many accident victims die due to poor emergency response.
