Tigers dropped from ninth to 10th place with 31 points from 23 games.

Having given Nyasa Big Bullets a huge scare the previous week, much was expected from Tigers, but a combination of unforced errors and a blunt frontline undermined their cause.

Tigers’ Coach, Gerald Phiri, admitted that his charges did not step up to the plate.

“We did not play our usual game. I do not know why. Maybe the guys were afraid of the big names. We did not create enough scoring chances. We played well but it is all nothing if you do not win,” Phiri said.

The Kau Kau hardly registered a shot on target but missed through Bright Munthali and Alex Mkorongo’s wayward shots.

Earlier, Peter Cholopi had his goal-bound shot cleared off the line by Wanderers’ defender, Lewis Minjale.

On the other hand, Jabulani Linje won Wanderers a penalty after he was fouled by Bonda Mpinganjira in the 35th minute. Wadabwa stepped forward to hit the ball past Tigers’ goalkeeper, William Thole.

Wanderers, who featured Goalkeepers’ Trainer, Vales Kamzere between the sticks, led 1-0 at half-time. It took five minutes into the second half for Wadabwa to take his tally for the season to 14 goals, three behind leading scorer, Richard Mbulu.

Wadabwa defended from the front, forcing Tigers’ captain Clifford Kankhuni to misplace a ball which the striker snatched before blasting his shot past Thole at the near post.

Afterwards, it was now a question of game management for Wanderers’ Coach, Yasin Osman, who has in five games won four and lost once. Osman pulled out Alfred Manyozo jnr for Ernest Tambe whereas Linje left the pitch for Rafik Namwela. The substitutes were tasked with keeping possession.

Tigers: Thole, Kankhuni, Cholopi, Nickson Mwase, Mpinganjira, Patrick Gunde (Mkorongo), Peter Mpulula, Yamikani Chester, Precious Phiri (Elia Munthali), Munthali, Dan Kumwenda.

Wanderers: Kamzere, Minjale, Francis Mlimbika, Bongani Kayipa, Stanley Sanudi, Manyozo (Tambe), Mike Kaziputa, Joseph Kamwendo, Jimmy Zakazaka (Felix Zulu), Wadabwa.

Striker Peter Wadabwa’s double earned Be Forward Wanderers a 2-0 win over Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday to keep the Nomads’ title dream alive.
