{"id":34347,"date":"2016-10-26T08:51:55","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T06:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=34347"},"modified":"2016-10-26T08:51:55","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T06:51:55","slug":"mphundu-mjumira-to-star-in-a-play-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/10\/26\/mphundu-mjumira-to-star-in-a-play-in-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Mphundu Mjumira to star in a play in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nanzikambe actor Mphundu Mjumira will next month leave for Germany where he will play the main character in a play titled <em>Fear Eats the Soul. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The actor, who recently starred in a collaborative play <em>The Prison Escape <\/em>featuring Nanzikambe Arts, Mzuzu University Theatre Arts Group, Lions Theatre and actress Flora Suya, said yesterday that he was glad to be considered as the main actor in the production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis just shows that there is talent in Malawi and to be considered for the main role is no mean achievement. This will also give me a chance to show my skills to a different audience,\u201d Mjumira said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he will leave for Germany end November.<\/p>\n<p>Mjumira said Theatre Konstanz which has been working in partnership with Nanzikambe Arts in several projects decided to put him in the cast having been impressed by his acting skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be there for five months. This whole move is also as a result of the relationship that is there between Nanzikambe and Theatre Konstanz,\u201d said the actor.<\/p>\n<p>He said <em>Fear Eats the Soul <\/em>is a play that talks about the story of an immigrant who goes to Germany and falls in love with a woman there.<\/p>\n<p>According to a synopsis of the play, <em>Fear Eats the Soul <\/em>is originally a movie that was written and directed by a famous German writer, director and theatre maker Rainer Werner Fassbinder.<\/p>\n<p>The movie is said to have won a lot of international prizes and that since then it has been very popular on theatre stages.<\/p>\n<p>This is a story of an accidental romance which is kindled between a 60- year old widowed cleaning woman and a migrant worker, who is 25-years younger.<\/p>\n<p>They abruptly decide to marry, appalling everyone around them. What follows is a bitter and noxious reaction over their relationship, revealing every character in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>According to the synopsis, this is a very strong and melodramatic theatre piece about the way conventional society detests anything and anybody unfamiliar but also about the hopes and limits of love.<\/p>\n<p>The staging in Konstanz will be directed by Johanna Schall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nanzikambe actor Mphundu Mjumira will next month leave for Germany where he will play the main character in a play titled Fear Eats the Soul.
