{"id":34295,"date":"2016-10-25T09:44:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T07:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=34295"},"modified":"2016-10-25T09:44:01","modified_gmt":"2016-10-25T07:44:01","slug":"chombe-foods-touts-buy-malawi-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/10\/25\/chombe-foods-touts-buy-malawi-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Chombe Foods touts Buy Malawi Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the local producing companies, Chombe Foods, has said the introduction of the Buy Malawi Strategy early this year has helped the company to penetrate the market.<\/p>\n<p>Three months ago, Chombe Foods introduced on the market Chombe rice, which is milled and packaged locally.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s General Manager, Gresham Thomas, said the Malawi market is flooded with different types of rice making it difficult to break through within a short period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have managed to penetrate through the market within a short period which is not an easy task considering the competition that is there for both local and foreign rice,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Buy Malawi Strategy has helped to promote the local industry.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas said Malawians are now embracing the spirit of buying locally produced products, especially foods stuffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the spirit that the government is encouraging and as businesses, we are benefiting and contributing to the country\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Malawians promote the local industry, it means there will be job creation and also the government will be able to collect enough revenue for development projects in communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas said the successful performance of Chombe rice on the market is encouragement for the company to introduce other products to meet customer demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have state of the art milling machines and our packaging is that of international standards. Apart from that, we have been encouraged by the positive response from consumers and we are currently in the process of coming up with other products like tomato ketchup and Chombe sugar, among others,\u201d Gresham said.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Joseph Mwanamvekha, said as government, their role is to provide policies that the private sector should make use of to boost their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Mwanamvekha said for the Buy Malawi Strategy to be successful, it needs both the government and the private sector to contribute positively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe private sector needs to be in the lead to make the strategy a success by providing products that are of high quality.
