Renowned soccer analyst, Charles Nyirenda, has condemned the growing abandonments of games in the TNM Super League, saying such incidents were destroying the image of the league.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis tendency of ending matches before the regulation time is destroying the image of the TNM Super League,\u201d the former Football Association of Malawi general secretary said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the referee did not give a penalty, there is no need to walk off the pitch and eventually abandon the game. It is high time all Super League teams started accepting referee\u2019s decisions, whether the decision is against you or not, and whether it is correct or wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nyirenda was reacting to the latest abandonment of a league match between Moyale Barracks and their fellow soldiers, Mafco, at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.<\/p>\n
In another incident, Max Bullets also walked off the pitch last week in Lilongwe in protest against a referee\u2019s decision during a league game against Epac.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Treasurer, Tiya Somba-Banda, has said their Disciplinary Committee is assessing reports from both sides involved in the abandonment in Mzuzu.<\/p>\n
\u201cSulom\u2019s Disciplinary Committee is still soliciting reports from both teams as well as match officials. After these reports are analysed, a decision will be made in the next 48 hours,\u201d Somba-Banda said.<\/p>\n
The match played in Mzuzu ended prematurely after 72 minutes following Mafco\u2019s protest against referee, Aziz Nyirenda\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
It all started when the ball appeared to have struck the hands of Moyale\u2019s Ntopijo Njewa inside his own penalty area, but the referee waved play on.<\/p>\n
Moyale were then leading 2-0, thanks to second half strikes from Chamveka Gwetsani and Khuda Muyaba.<\/p>\n
The referee\u2019s decision ignited fury from the Mafco\u2019s bench. The Salima-based soldiers\u2019 Team Manager, Chawezi Ngwira, alongside other members of technical panel left the pitch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
