Local matchmaker, Steve \u2018Mawenzi\u2019 Msiska, has called on major stakeholders in domestic boxing to invest in heavyweight boxer, Alick Gogodo.<\/p>\n
Gogodo saved the country\u2019s face on Friday after recording Malawi\u2019s only win during international fights in Harare, Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
The Malawian defeated Zimbabwean, Trevor Mpofu, in fashion with a first round technical knockout.<\/p>\n
It was Gogodo\u2019s fifth win in six fights. He lost once in Namibia.<\/p>\n
His compatriots, Ellen Simwaka and Agnes Mtimaukanena-Mwando, lost miserably to Zambian opponents.<\/p>\n
Simwaka suffered a fourth round technical defeat against Barbra Banda in a bantamweight battle whereas Mtimaukanena saw her quest for a World Boxing Council International welterweight belt vanish in thin air after the referee stopped the contest in the third round against eventual champion, Loleta Muzeya.<\/p>\n
Msiska, commenting on the trio, said time was ripe for stakeholders to take notice of Gogodo\u2019s talent.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis performance shows that if supported, he can make it big in the country. He just needs good advice and support to attain his goals. I believe this boxer can help us win reputable titles,\u201d Msiska said.<\/p>\n
The matchmaker said it was unfortunate that Simwaka and Mtimaukanena lost their fights.<\/p>\n
\u201cEllen put up a spirited performance but she was up against a very good boxer. On Mtimaukanena, I think she tried her best but I blame her corner-men for deploying a wrong game-plan.
