Federation for disability organisations in Malawi (Fedoma) has asked the corporate world to reach out to people living with disabilities in their social responsibility programmes.<\/p>\n
Secretary for Fedoma, Elizabeth Machinjiri, said this on Friday when Capital Oil Refinery (Cori), producers of Kukoma cooking oil donated 30 bottles of two litres of Kukoma and cash to people living with disabilities in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost people living with disabilities have had a hard time to attain education due to the challenges that are there in our education system. This has led to many of us not being fully financially independent. This why you may notice that most people who beg on the streets have a disability, it is not by choice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Machinjiri, however thanked the Cori for making their mothers\u2019 day memorable through the donation they made.<\/p>\n
Cori Human Resources Manager, Robert Mwanja, said the company thought of reaching out to people living with disabilities because the organisation regards everyone as being equal regardless of the fact that others are disabled.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have always responded to every person in need including the marginalised people like these. We appreciate that we have people of this nature and we thought of taking advantage of the mother\u2019s day celebrations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel if companies could collectively help these people in various ways they wouldn\u2019t be begging on the streets,\u201d said Mwanja who could however not disclose how much money in total was given to the people living with disabilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
