{"id":33651,"date":"2016-10-14T10:48:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T08:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=33651"},"modified":"2016-10-14T10:52:13","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T08:52:13","slug":"exit-lake-of-stars-enter-likoma-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/10\/14\/exit-lake-of-stars-enter-likoma-fest\/","title":{"rendered":"Exit Lake of Stars enter Likoma Fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are so many Malawians who have never been to Likoma Island but here is a chance to see this beautiful island which comes up through the Likoma Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The festival is spearheaded by Smooth Touch Promotions.<\/p>\n<p>The festival which is still in its infancy but slowly gaining ground gets down to business this weekend with nothing but one thing in mind \u2013 to give people a treat as well as get them to appreciate the beauty of the Warm Heart of Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The Likoma Festival comes barely a week after the country also experienced another festival \u2013 Lake of Stars which was held at Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Smooth Touch Promotions Director, Godfrey Kachimanga, said yesterday this was the only festival in the country which takes place at Likoma Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw a gap in that there was no festival happening at this island and yet Likoma is such a beautiful place. This is why we came out. Having enjoyed the Lake of Stars Festival, it\u2019s now time to experience the beauty of this festival,\u201d Kachimanga said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the festival will give a chance to people to enjoy sailing on the fresh waters of Lake Malawi but also go on site seeing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a ship picking up people to the festival and so one can choose where to board it and the boarding points are Nkhata Bay tomorrow morning, Monkey Bay in Mangochi on Friday morning (today), Nkhota-kota on Friday night and Chipoka in Salima on Friday afternoon,\u201d Kachimanga said.<\/p>\n<p>The charges for the festival is K25,000 per person.<\/p>\n<p>Kachimanga said there will also be a White Party on the top deck of the ship which will start at 8pm tonight until late.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we said, there will also be an hour of free Chill courtesy of Carlsberg Malawi and apart from that we will have music throughout,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The festival runs from today through to Monday which is a holiday.<\/p>\n<p>The final line-up for the performances during the festival includes Wailing Brothers and Theo Thomson, both of which also performed at the Lake of Stars, Active X Band, Moses Makawa, Dalie, Likoma Islanders Band and Afro Kilo from Mozambique<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are so many Malawians who have never been to Likoma Island but here is a chance to see this beautiful island which comes up through the Likoma Festival.
