Lives for some needy College of Medicine (CoM) students continue to be hard following their failure to pay tuition fees and register for their 2016\/2017 academic year.<\/p>\n
The students who include 47 on mature entry programme and 91 on generic programme were on the verge of not taking their examinations which started yesterday but the college officials have allowed them to sit their examinations on an understanding that the college will be deducting the student\u2019s stipend allowance to go towards registration and tuition fee.<\/p>\n
This arrangement however has not amused some students who complained that the development is likely to force them to live miserable lives because they will not be able to survive with the balance from the allowances.<\/p>\n
In an interview, Assistant Registrar for CoM, Martin Matululu, confirmed that there are students who were at risk of withdrawing from the college on the financial grounds. But he indicated that the majority of them have since managed to negotiate with the dean of students to allow them to register with the institution.<\/p>\n
But in an earlier communication to the concerned student, Matululu advised them to consult the revised Students\u2019 Rules and Regulations of the University of Malawi, by paying particular attention to a section under conditions for withdrawal other than academic.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease note that the window period for 1st Semester registration shall be closed on Friday, 30th September 2016 at 4pm.
