Following the enactment of the Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply (Mips) Act, all procurement and supply chain management professionals are being asked to register with Mips to be recognised as authentic members of the profession.<\/p>\n
The requirement applies to professionals working both in the private and public sectors.<\/p>\n
Mips Business Development Officer, Dorothy Chikoya, confirmed that the Mips Act, which was passed into law by Parliament in November last year and was assented to by President Peter Mutharika on January 14, 2016, calls for the registration of all procurement professionals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are asking individuals and even companies to make sure that those handling procurement and supply chain management functions are duly registered with us because that is what the law demands,\u201d said Chikoya.<\/p>\n
She said the Mips Act, which was officially launched by Vice President Saulos Chilima became effective after the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Goodall Gondwe, gazetted it.<\/p>\n
Chikoya said by registering with the Institute, procurement and supply chain management professionals will be required to live by certain minimum ethical and professional standards.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Act also provides for punishment of any person who, not being licensed as a procurement professional, engages or purports to engage, or holds oneself out as being so entitled to engage, or to perform those activities reserved to be performed by a person registered under the Act,\u201d said Chikoya.<\/p>\n
She said MIPS main objective is to ensure that companies, both private and public, observe professionalism in all matters concerning procurement and supply.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe role of procurement and supply in all organisations cannot be undermined and it is very important that organisations support their professionals by encouraging them to be part of Mips,\u201d said Chikoya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
