Zolozolo United FC Coach, Oscar Kaunda, is confident that his side can pull a surprise in the Fisd Challenge Cup, saying the round of 16-clash against Dwangwa Town Hammers will be a close contest.<\/p>\n
Kaunda made the remarks after guiding his side to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over their fellow Northern Region Simama Premier Division participants, Rumphi Pirates, at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Zikani Sichinga\u2019s 70th minute strike was enough to earn Zolozolo the competition\u2019s Northern Region championship and book a round of-16 clash with Hammers.<\/p>\n
The on-loan striker from Moyale Barracks beat Pirates\u2019 back-four in spectacular fashion, chesting the ball down before looping it past helpless Stanley Kachamba in Pirates\u2019 goal posts from close range.<\/p>\n
The former Civo United mentor said his boys are hungry to prove themselves in the next round.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen this competition was starting, we were scoring a lot of goals, but today we have only scored once. So, it is a clear indication that the higher the competition goes, the tougher it becomes,\u201d Kaunda said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the next assignment, we are up against our fellow minnows [Hammers]. It is good that we are not playing a Super League side yet. I think we have a chance to prove ourselves at a higher level because we are now carrying the Northern Region\u2019s flag.\u201d<\/p>\n
Should Zolozolo see off Hammers in the round of-16, they may book a possible meeting against giants, Be Forward Wanderers, in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
The Nomads are strong favourites to overcome Ntcheu-based Lake Valley in the last-16 meeting.<\/p>\n
Pirates\u2019 coach, Luka Tembo, while conceding defeat, blamed the loss on what he felt was poor officiation.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy boys gave out everything in the game. We had chances and our opponents also had chances, but they scored because the referee and his assistants were on their [Zolozolo United] side,\u201d Tembo lamented.<\/p>\n
