After being starved of competitive club football since June, Flames and Bidvest Wits\u2019 versatile attacker, Gerald Phiri Jnr, will join Platinum Stars on loan in the South Africa Premiership.<\/p>\n
Phiri\u2019s South Africa-based manager, Paul Mitchell, confirmed yesterday that the midfielder will be loaned out for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is only a loan for game-time but then he will be returning to Wits. But for Robin Ngalande, we are just sorting out a personal issue. We have a couple of issues away from South Africa,\u201d Mitchell said in a written a response.<\/p>\n
This is Phiri\u2019s second loan deal since joining Wits from Zimbabwe giants, Caps United, in 2015 after impressing during the Cosafa Cup in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Former Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers\u2019 striker, Andrew Chikhosi, said the loan move would help the youngster to re-launch his career in South Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a good move for him because chances of having game-time at Platinum are high. He is one of the best players for the national team and he needs to play regularly,\u201d Chikhosi said.<\/p>\n
Last season, Phiri was shipped out on loan to Botswana\u2019s Township Rollers, but he did not play due to work permit hitches. Ngalande also spent time on loan at Stars last season.<\/p>\n
Despite lacking game-time at club level, Phiri has been a regular for the Flames\u2019 squad, scoring a stunning free-kick in 1-0 win over Swaziland in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Kamuzu Stadium last month.<\/p>\n
