The future of Frank Kaphesi, a first year Physiotherapy student at the College of Medicine (CoM), looks grim as he risks being withdrawn from the college due to failure to pay tuition fees.<\/p>\n
The 20-year-old, who scored 11 points in the Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations from Enyezini Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba, said he may drop out of college as he has nobody to pay school fees for him.<\/p>\n
Kaphesi said his application for a fees loan to the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board was unsuccessful which means he will have to find other means to pay school fees.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have not paid anything. I have not even registered for this academic year and the risk is that I will not be allowed to sit for the mid semester examinations that will be administered in the next two weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe situation is dire, all I need as of now is the school fees so that I can register. Of course apart from the fees I am struggling to find food, accommodation and pay for stationery I am just the way I am now moving up and down in town begging for help,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
CoM officials are also failing to keep him in school and the only help they rendered is to write him a letter he would be using to ask for help. The letter is signed by the Dean of Students at the college, F. Lampiao.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is to confirm that Frank Kaphesi is a registered student here at College of Medicine. His registration number is 201550023161. He is studying towards his bachelor of Physiotherapy. He is one of the needy students and is unable to pay school fees by himself,\u201d the letter in part reads.<\/p>\n
