Sub-Traditional Authority (STA) Lulanga of Mangochi has blamed stakeholders in the education sector for not doing enough to find solutions to the dwindling standards of education in the district.<\/p>\n
Lulanga was speaking in an interview when World Vision Malawi (WVM) and World Bicycle Relief donated bicycles to 375 learners from Ching\u2019anda and Lulanga primary schools to ease their mobility to and from schools.<\/p>\n
He expressed concern that despite various interventions by government and civil society organisations in the district, Mangochi is still lagging behind in terms of education.<\/p>\n
To this, the chief said there is need for relevant stakeholders to go to the drawing board and find solutions which can change things for the better considering that most of the strategies being employed now are not bearing fruits.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur district has become an area where people are making money in the name of promoting education for our children. But it is unfortunate that the interventions are not bringing desirable results. It is my hope and that of the people of Mangochi to see authorities coming in with new strategies which can help in promoting education for children,\u201d said Lulanga.<\/p>\n
He however, thanked WVM for the bicycle donation, which he said will complement well with WVM\u2019s, other activities in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout World Vision our area could have been dead by now. We have water, schools with teachers\u2019 houses because of World Vision. We hope the bicycles will be able to help our children pass during national examinations,\u201d said Lulanga.<\/p>\n
The bicycle\u2019s donation was made under the Bicycle Education Empowerment Programme (Beep) which is a component within the Malawi Literacy for Empowerment through Action Research and Networking (Mlearn).<\/p>\n
The project\u2019s Coordinator Vincent Maliro said through the Beep project, WVM wants to make sure that no children drops out of school due to distances in between schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs an organisation, we have managed to construct schools in Ching\u2019anda EPA but there are other areas which are still not serviced with schools. So the Beep initiative wants to help pupils from those areas to reach to schools in time.
