China\u2019s Ambassador to Malawi Shi-Ting Wang has said his government will expand its assistance to Malawi.<\/p>\n
One of the areas he said his country is interested to help Malawi in is infrastructure development, which includes an element of power generation.<\/p>\n
Shi-Ting made the remarks in Lilongwe during the celebrations marking the 67th Anniversary of the founding of the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina is a country that always keeps its word. In the days to come, [we] will increase our assistance to Malawi. Right now, there are a lot of new projects and programmes being undertaken under the framework of China- Malawi cooperation. I strongly believe that with the concerted effort of both sides, the China-Malawi friendship will have a brighter future,\u201d Shi-Ting said.<\/p>\n
Some of the areas he highlighted under infrastructure development are construction of a new airport, improvement of the country\u2019s road network and construction of community colleges.<\/p>\n
Apart from infrastructure development, Shi-Ting said his government will continue providing support in human resources development and agriculture.<\/p>\n
Minister of Justice, Samuel Tembenu, said there are a number of lessons Malawi can draw from China.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom 1949, China has become an economic giant. Malawi can borrow a leaf from China. It is amazing how China\u2019s GDP per capita has grown from less than $50 to more than $8,000,\u201d Tembenu said.<\/p>\n
He also thanked the Chinese Government for the support Malawi has been getting from the Asian country.<\/p>\n
Some of the projects China has completed in Malawi are Bingu National Stadium, Parliament Building, Karonga-Chitipa Road, Malawi University of Science and Technology, Bingu International Conference Centre and Mkwichi Primary School in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
