United Kingdom-based Kang\u2019ombe family has donated assorted items to Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC), a sports body charged with taking care of the interests of physically challenged athletes.<\/p>\n
In a letter of declaration of the donation dated September 19 2016, Lina Kang\u2019ombe, said the items were valued at K500,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hereby confirm that I am voluntarily and unconditionally donating 12 newly purchased running shoes, 25 pairs of second-hand shoes, 25 pairs of new running socks, several second-hand sport shoes and tops,\u201d reads the letter which The Daily Times <\/em>has seen.<\/p>\n In an interview, Lina said she got to know about MPC and the needs of its 120-plus athletes after visiting Malawi where her husband hails from while doing research for her PhD studies.<\/p>\n \u201cThe idea of donating shoes came naturally as it seemed like this is what Malawi\u2019s visually-impaired runners could have benefit of to facilitate their participation in and performance,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n MPC President, James Chiutsi, said the donation will boost the association\u2019s prepar a t ions for next month\u2019s National Paralympic Championship.<\/p>\n \u201cThis donation has come in very timely as we are embarking on a national championship from November 2016. We encourage individuals and corporations to help develop sport for people with disabilities in Malawi,\u201d Chiutsi said.<\/p>\n MPC recently participated in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games in Brazil through visually-impaired athlete, Taonele Banda.<\/p>\n MPC is affiliated to Malawi National Council of Sports locally and Germany-based International Paralympic Committee on the international stage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" United Kingdom-based Kang\u2019ombe family has donated assorted items to Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC), a sports body charged with taking care of the interests of physically challenged athletes.
