They will present a proposal to the Executive Committee, which in turn, will consult government,” Mwenda said.

“An added advantage does not mean that he [Ramadhan] will get the job automatically. When an employer says those with a masters’ degree will have an added advantage, it does not mean that those with first degrees cannot not be recruited.”

It is not clear if government can afford a high-profile coach such as Globbelaar, who played for Zimbabwe’s Warriors 33 times between 1977 and 1998.

Globbelaar, who is reportedly based in Canada, has coached top-flight clubs such as Seven Stars, Hellenic, Manning Rangers, Umtata Bush Bucks and SuperSport United in South Africa. He also served as player-coach for Zimbabwe.

Globbelaar is reportedly currently working as goalkeeper coach for Ottawa Fury FC in Canada.

“He managed Seven Stars in 1999 and took the team from the relegation zone to finish fourth in the final league table. In 2001, he took over struggling Hellenic. While at the club, he saved them from relegation,” reads an online report on Globbelaar’s career.

Ramadhan and local coaches such as Yasin Osman, Eddingtone Ng’onamo, Gilbert Chirwa and Lawrence Waya are also interested in the post which became vacant after the exit of Ernest Mtawali on August 1.

Waya recently said he had the coaching and playing experience required for the job. Osman said yesterday he was waiting for Fam to advertise the position.

“However, I indicated my intention to apply as soon as the advert is out,” said the Be Forward Wanderers’ legend.

English Premiership club, Liverpool’s legend, Bruce Globbelaar, has joined the race for the Malawi National Football Team’s coaching job which, despite not being advertised, has attracted 65 unsolicited applications.
