Southern Region Chess League (SRCL) coordinator for chess in schools, Margaret Ngugama, says the region\u2019s youngsters would undergo intensive preparations before the Presidential Cup national finals.<\/p>\n
Ngugama said they had selected promising players to represent the region when it hosts the competition on June 13.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe selected good players after two preliminary rounds. The first round attracted over 80 players and the final had about 30 players. Now we have selected a team that will represent us. It is our task to prepare the team,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The South as hosts, have been given a chance to field six players in each section while the Central and Northern regions would contribute five players each.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been given two more slots and we are delighted. Of course we could have loved a lot of players but two is not bad,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In girl\u2019s section, Tendai Simwaka emerged champion with seven points while Favour Tayali was second with six points. Sharon Khonje with five points finished on fourth position and was followed on fourth by Efrida Banda with four points.<\/p>\n
Rebecca Kaunda qualified on fifth position with four points while Tinashe Jumbe was the last with the same number of points.<\/p>\n
Ernest Moloka dominated the boys section with six points while Noti Chipinga was second with 5.5 points.<\/p>\n
Chipeta Katama with the same number of points while Curtis Libamba followed with with five points.<\/p>\n
Alick Katuma and Harold Chasowa sealed the last two slots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
