Sponsor, Chombe Foods Limited\u2019s top official has asked Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board to put its house in order.<\/p>\n
Chombe Gener a l Manager, Gresham Thomas, made the call yesterday following the controversy that surrounded last Saturday\u2019s outcome of the non-title fight between Osgood Kayuni and Wilson Masamba.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a sanctioning body, they need to engage qualified officials to handle such fights. Nevertheless, we are happy with what we saw during the fight. We were impressed with the performance of the two boxers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kayuni was wrongly declared the winner after the board entertained an intruder in the jury at Robins Park in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
The decision was reversed on Monday at Malawi National Council of Sports\u2019 offices where one of Kayuni\u2019s cornermen from Zama Boxing Promotions, Olusegun Kapanda, slapped one of the judges\u2014Lovemore Katanda.<\/p>\n
Despite the controversy, Thomas assured the Malawi Defence Force\u2019s rival boxers of continued sponsorship for their fights. The boxers were being prepared to face opponents from South Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are more than prepared to support Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions to arrange international fights for the two boxers. Depending on logistics, including budget, we can provide funds to enable the two face foreign opponents,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n
Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions\u2019 Managing Director, Mike Chitenje, thanked Chombe for the commitment to boxing.<\/p>\n
