{"id":3260,"date":"2015-05-29T08:49:55","date_gmt":"2015-05-29T08:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=3260"},"modified":"2015-05-29T08:49:55","modified_gmt":"2015-05-29T08:49:55","slug":"sheriffs-impound-tourism-department-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/05\/29\/sheriffs-impound-tourism-department-bus\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheriffs impound Tourism Department bus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sheriffs in Lilongwe on Wednesday invaded the Department of Tourism headquarters where they impounded a bus belonging to the department.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriffs took the action allegedly because of the department\u2019s failure to settle an outstanding bill with a security company.<\/p>\n<p>At the time the Times Group crew visited the scene, the situation was tense as staff gathered outside the building after the Sheriffs had already left with the bus.<\/p>\n<p>However, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture Else Tembo could not divulge more details on the issue, saying she had just returned from Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you can see I\u2019ve just walked into my office from Parliament. This is an ambush because I\u2019ve not been briefed on what happened so I cannot answer anything,\u201d said Tembo.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is understood that the department accrued a bill of unspecified millions of kwachas with a security company providing the service at Umodzi Park.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the bus, the sheriffs wanted to impound furniture and computers from one of the offices at the department but did not after officers protested.<\/p>\n<p>Umodzi Park is owned by Umodzi Holdings, a fully government-owned company.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheriffs in Lilongwe on Wednesday invaded the Department of Tourism headquarters where they impounded a bus belonging to the department.
