Mwawi Kumwenda\u2019s former New Zealand team, Mainland Tactix, are hunting for a replacement for the Malawi netball Queens\u2019 shooter, who has signed for Australian giants, Melbourne Vixens.<\/p>\n
Kumwenda ended her three-year romance with Tactix after landing a two-year deal with the Australian giants.<\/p>\n
Netball Mainland Chief Executive, Brigit Hearn, told the club\u2019s website that she received an e-mail from Mwawi\u2019s agent, advising that she won\u2019t be back.<\/p>\n
Hearn said they wanted to keep Mwawi and made her a substantial offer and could not have done anything more.<\/p>\n
\u201cI imagine it\u2019s a significant package no New Zealand franchise would have been able to compete with. At the end of the day, we have made a very good offer. We have done everything that was within our power,\u201d Heard is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
Hearn said they would like to sign a New Zealand national team player, but may have to look offshore.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ideal would be a New Zealand goal shoot to develop our own players and give them opportunities. I am not ruling out an import either. You do have to find a goal shoot, who can put the ball through the hoop,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
Mwawi, 26, spent three years in Melbourne playing for Peninsula Waves after signing for them in 2011 from Escom Sisters, now Kukoma Diamonds.<\/p>\n
Hearn was naturally disappointed that Mwawi had opted against staying and playing in the New Zealand domestic league.<\/p>\n
