Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) will launch its ambitious Malawi National Tennis Centre at Country Club Limbe (CCL) today.<\/p>\n
LTAM media executive Tadala Kandulu said it was a dream come true.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not there yet but we are in the making. It is very significant because we will finally be able to train the best junior players in Malawi and hopefully these players will do very well when they go for international tournaments where they will get chances to earn scholarships,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Kandulu said LTAM through Junior Tennis Initiative Coordinator, Hackson Mwathiwa would be spotting promising youngsters from across the nation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen they will be going to school as normal kids and attend tennis sessions in the afternoon. We would like to have a balance in terms of school and tennis because if they are to achieve their dreams of playing internationally they will need to go to school as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Minister of Sports, Grace Chiumia, is expected to officially open the ground breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of works that is to change into Malawi National Tennis Centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe centre will cost about K53.6 million to renovate. The LTAM anticipates that ITF will provide at most 50 percent of this cost and LTAM will raise the balance through various fundraising activities. This is the capital cost,\u201d Kandulu said.<\/p>\n
LTAM has estimated at K1.1 million as the monthly operating expenditure.<\/p>\n
