This just tells you that we have potential to excel in the creative sector, “Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) President Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango said.

Mhango said as Mum they will offer all their support to Tamanyawaka so that she produces the best at the concert and further called on the corporate world to support such initiatives.

“I have listened to Tamanyawaka’s music and her it is good and as Mum we wish her well at the event. Such a platform will not benefit her alone but the country as a whole as she will sell Malawi. There is need for the corporate world to come out and support artists so that they gain exposure with such platforms,” the Mum leader said.

He said while they were proud that Malawi has a representative at the reggae sunsplash, it was also a challenge to other artists to pull up their socks and aim at performing on such platforms.

“We need to wake up and aim at participating in such international platforms. These are platforms which even give you a chance to interact with artists from other countries,” Mhango said.

Tamanyawaka said she was looking forward to the best during the concert starting on September 23 through to September 24.

“I am geared to do the best at the reggae sunsplash and make my country proud. To me it’s not about Tamanyawaka but it’s about Malawi,” she said.

Tamanyawaka said she has been doing rehearsals with fellow artists in Ivory Coast.

“These artists were just helping me out but I want to use a local band at the concert. I have worked with the local group for sometime during my shows back home. The band has also been training on its own although the biggest challenge is that we are still having a shortfall,” the female reggae artist said.

She said she was working hard to source enough funds for the concert but was quick to say that well-wishers were welcome to support them.

Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) has congratulated Ivory Coast-based musician Tamanyawaka Chavula for earning herself a place to represent the country at the first Annual Africa Unite Reggae Sunsplash 2016 concert taking place in South Africa this coming weekend.
