Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League will be on a three-week break following the conclusion of first round games.<\/p>\n
The league\u2019s General Secretary, Annie Hanjahanja, said the second round is scheduled to start on October 1.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been a successful first round. We saw teams such as Prison Sisters, Chilomoni Sisters, Alliance Capital Stars and Shizaella putting up good performances,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, the most improved team was Thunder Queens. In recent seasons, they used to lose to Tigresses and Kukoma Diamonds by huge margins. But during this season\u2019s first round games, their performance was outstanding such that they lost by narrow margins to both teams.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hanjahanja advised the teams to use the break to assess their squads.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey need to do a thorough analysis and find solutions to their problems. They must come up with ways of improving their performance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Tigresses survived a scare when they struggled to beat revamped Thunder Queens 28-23 in a league match at Blantyre Youth Centre last Saturday.<\/p>\n
Tigresses, who are the defending champions, have wrapped up the first round with 24 points from nine games.<\/p>\n
The Kau Kau ladies won eight games and lost once whereas Thunder Queens have 21 points having lost twice.<\/p>\n
Thunder Queens\u2019 General Secretary, Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji, said it was unfortunate that they lost the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe could have done well. Our preparations were chaotic. Most players were not attending training as such, we lacked endurance,\u201d she said, while calling for financial support to the team.<\/p>\n
