A unanimous decision from fellow golfers restored Nickson Makawa as the champion of this year\u2019s Airtel Thyolo Golf Tournament at Thyolo Sports Club on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Earlier, due to the fact that he is an Airtel employee, the organising committee had withdrawn Makawa from the top prize.<\/p>\n
Thyolo Sports Club golf captain, Plem Singh, said the decision to withdraw Makawa did not go down well with the fellow golfers who unanimously challenged it.<\/p>\n
Makawa, Airtel Zonal Sales Manager for the Eastern Region, emerged the winner with 45 points and was awarded a trophy, a state-of-the-art Sumsung phone and K20, 000 worth of airtime.<\/p>\n
He, however, donated the phone to golfer, Charles Mukiwa, while airtime was given to Thyolo Sports Club.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing someone who works for Airtel, I saw that it was worth donating the prizes to our customers. Actually, it is not my first victory because I have been a runner-up on several occasions. To my credit, this is my seventh trophy,\u201d Makawa said.<\/p>\n
In the ladies\u2019 category, Bose Kamphulusa won with 41 points while Margaret Mkwanda finished on second position with 40 points.<\/p>\n
Airtel Director of Enterprise, Rachael Mijiga, who represented Airtel Managing Director, Charles Kamoto, described the tournament, which attracted 78 golfers, as successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe sponsor this to interact with the corporate customers and business captains. The policy at Airtel is that if a member of staff or a relative wins a prize, they are supposed to donate it.
