Government has said it expects more Brazilians to come and invest in Malawi adding to those that are already conducting their businesses in the country.<\/p>\n
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Francis Kasaila, said this in Lilongwe during celebrations to mark Brazil\u2019s 194th independence anniversary.<\/p>\n
The celebrations in Malawi took place at the official residence of Brazil Ambassador, Gustavo Martins Nogueira, and different heads of missions and top government officials attended the event.<\/p>\n
Kasaila said the three years of diplomatic ties between Malawi and Brazil have so far proved to be fruitful with the South American country assisting Malawi in different areas including food security.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have one of the biggest investors in the world investing in Malawi and Mozambique but we are looking forward to more investments from Brazil. They have very big investments in their country and their technology is very advanced. They have what it takes to develop a country,\u201d Kasaila said.<\/p>\n
On his part Nogueira said his country remains committed to assisting Malawi in agriculture, food security and other areas of development.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn these areas, we try to bring some of the expertise developed in Brazil over the last decade to increase productivity. We are also bringing into Malawi some social policies that have proved to be very effective in Brazil in raising people out of poverty,\u201d Nogueira said.<\/p>\n
He said Brazil has also been struggling with a lot of socio-economic problems which exist to this day, but has managed to improve the socio-economic situation of its people by introducing different policies.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor instance, every family gets a minimum payment at the end of the month if they keep their children in school and this has helped to decrease the number of dropouts. In turn, long-term positive incentives like these make sure people\u2019s lives are improved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
