Ivory Coast-based reggae artist, Tamanyawaka Chavula, has sounded an SOS that she needs K4 million to be able to perform with a local band at the first annual Africa Unite Reggae Sunsplash Festival in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Tamanyawaka, who has managed to raise K3 million out of the K7 million total budget, has since appealed to the corporate world to help her raise the remaining amount so as to represent Malawi at the festival.<\/p>\n
The reggae fest which will bring on board several artists from different countries runs from September 23 through to September 25.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the K7 million, I will be able to take a Malawian band with me and in so doing promoting our local bands but without that it means I will go alone and perform with a CD which is not healthy,\u201d said the female reggae singer.<\/p>\n
She said she worked so hard to earn a place at the festival and that it was good that she performs live and to her best to fly the country\u2019s flag.<\/p>\n
Tamanyawaka added that the festival is the first of its kind in Africa and that all countries are expected to be represented.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want Malawi to miss this opportunity that is why I am making all the efforts to make sure that I go with a local band. Currently, I have cancelled any plans to go to the festival by plane and instead I have opted to travel with the band by bus,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
