Newly-appointed Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Henry Mussa, has said time was up for faulting sports authorities over the dwindling domestic sports standards.<\/p>\n
\u201cDeveloping sports in the country is not the responsibility of government or administrators only but all Malawians. We need to come up with workable solutions to improve sports in the country,\u201d Mussa explained on Wednesday in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
On the sidelines of Bingu National Stadium\u2019s handover ceremony by the Chinese government to the ministry, Mussa said some Malawians, without offering solutions, fault the administrators over the poor sports standards.<\/p>\n
\u201cI intend to introduce a hotline where every Malawian would be free to come up with proposals on how we can address the challenges,\u201d he said, adding that he needs time to come up with his sports development strategy.<\/p>\n
Mussa, who said he was equally concerned with the performance of Malawi National Football Team and the netball Queens, said the opening of the new stadium was a milestone.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe coming in of this stadium will help Malawi host big international games and conventions. This will, among other things, help to attract foreign currency that will improve the economy of this country,\u201d he said during the handover graced by Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Wang Shi-Ting and Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango.<\/p>\n
Mussa also disclosed that his ministry was planning to invite China National Football Team for the opening ceremony likely to be held next month.<\/p>\n
Shi-Ting confirmed the possibility of bringing the Chinese team for the opening ceremony of the stadium, which was constructed through a concessional loan estimated at US$65 million (about K29 billion) repayable in 20 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have already signed an agreement with Malawi that we will do the maintenance in future and we have no problem with that we will do that because that is our responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
