Be Forward Wanderers have, despite having reservations on Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Disciplinary Committee\u2019s decision to fine the Nomads K650,000, called on the team\u2019s fans to behave during matches.<\/p>\n
In its determination released on Tuesday evening, Fam penalised the Nomads for bullying Mangochi Police FC goalkeeper, George Chauya, and also failing to control the Nomads\u2019 wayward supporters during a Carlsberg Cup semifinal match at Kamuzu Stadium a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n
Wanderers\u2019 General Secretary, Mike Butao, yesterday said they will meet later in the week to decide on whether to appeal against the fine, which is payable before the Carlsberg Cup final against Silver Strikers on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, I appeal to our supporters to refrain from any form of violence. Only two years ago we won the award for Most Disciplined Supporters. Why are things changing now?,\u201d Butao wondered.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will never condone violence of any sort, and if any of our supporters is involved in football violence, then they are not true supporters because they do not wish the club well. Sponsors are aware of these verdicts and they are watching.\u201d<\/p>\n
To appeal against the punishment, Wanderers need to pay K450,000.<\/p>\n
Butao further accused Fam\u2019s committee of failing to furnish the Nomads with reports from the Police, Stewards and Match Commissioner. The reports informed the committee\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe asked to be availed the various reports so that we could make an informed defence. We were told that that would be done after we responded to the charges. The verdict is now out and we still do not have a clue what was in the reports,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe asked for a hearing, which is only fair and this was not granted either. Rules of natural justice require that we get a hearing, that we get a chance to examine the evidence against us and cross-examine the witnesses. What we submitted was a statement. Judgement cannot be passed based on statements. That is unheard of.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
