Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has disclosed that it needs K100 million to enable the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames\u2019 participation in this year\u2019s African Nations Championship (Chan).<\/p>\n
Fam has reconsidered rejoining the continental championship, which is restricted to home-based players, following the Flames\u2019 misfiring in Group L of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and at the Cosafa Cup.<\/p>\n
Malawi last participated in Chan five years ago.<\/p>\n
Fam General Secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, said the K100 million will be enough to help Malawi take part in both competitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Technical and Youth sub-committee made recommendations that Malawi should participate in the championship following our exit from the Nations Cup. Approximately, we need about K100 million to undertake the assignments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda was hopeful that other stakeholders would join Carlsberg Malawi, FDH Bank and government in supporting the Flames.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need the support of the corporate world so that we should take part in the championship as recommended by the Technical and Youth sub-committee. This championship is important as we need to keep the team together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe saw when playing against Swaziland that we still have potential. We only need good organisation to rediscover our form.\u201d<\/p>\n
