As we all know the government has been very unwilling to have dialogue with Pac regarding the resolutions and recommendations made during the last conference. So this meeting will give Pac an opportunity to engage stakeholders and map the way forward on the state of governance in Malawi,” Mayaya said.

Mayaya was quick to say government is prioritising politics than advancing issues of national importance.

Pac Executive Director Robert Phiri said Pac is aware of its critics hence the planning of this meeting to address some of those issues.

“We are aware of the criticisms that have been advanced on these conferences and it is based on these observations that we are revising our strategies. Pac is using a consultative approach in following up on resolutions that were submitted to accountable institutions,” Phiri said.

Following the last all-inclusive stakeholders meeting, Pac and government formed a committee which was supposed to discuss the resolutions but this far the talks have hit a snag.

Commenting on the matter Presidential Advisor on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Mabvuto Bamusi said Pac should put its house in order arguing it was government’s initiative to have dialogues between the two.

“It is government which is on top of the dialogue. In my view dialogue is supposed to happen, in a cordial environment most of our key members had to attend Parliament sessions during the months of June and July, so how did they expect us to conduct dialogue meetings without our key members? The Constitution does not allow members to just skip discussions taking place. Pac should be the first to understand governance issues,” said Bamusi

Different stakeholders have commended the Public Affairs Committee (Pac) for planning to organise another all-inclusive stakeholders meeting which is coming as a follow up to the 5th all-inclusive stakeholders meeting which took place in February.
