Carlsberg Malawi sponsors of the Carlsberg Cup have appealed to football fans to desist from acts of violence and hooliganism saying such incidents are detrimental to the advancement of the game.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s Senior Brands Manager, (Acoholic), Twikale Chirwa, disclosed this on Tuesday in a response to a questionnaire on the progress of this year\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur view is that such incidents are detrimental to advancing the game and safeguarding the Carlsberg Cup sponsorship. Our aim with the Carlsberg Cup is to proactively seek to improve the level of football in Malawi whilst giving back to the communities in which we operate,\u201d Chirwa explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to complement government\u2019s efforts in the development of football through sponsoring the Carlsberg Cup and ensure that the competition is enjoyable for football loving Malawians.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Chirwa said this year\u2019s competition has been one of the most exciting tournaments ever.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe competition was very competitive and the desire to win by all teams this year improved performance and entertainment. It was encouraging to see mid-week matches being well patronised by football fans. This demonstrates the commercial potential that football has in Malawi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Chirwa, the company will be giving out 1000 match tickets to Carlsberg consumers in selected beer-selling outlets for those enjoying Carlsberg brands.<\/p>\n
For the first time in the history of the competition, Silver Strikers will meet Be Forward Wanderers in the Carlsberg Cup final on September 10, 2016 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Silver booked their first ever Carlsberg Cup final after beating Mafco 3-1 at Civo Stadium courtesy of a Victor Limbani brace and Mike Robert wonderful finish. Patrick Masanjala grabbed the consolation for Mafco.<\/p>\n
