Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has appealed to individuals and companies to sponsor youth leagues in the country.<\/p>\n
The association\u2019s Vice president, James Mwenda, made the remarks over the weekend in Lilongwe during the launch of Lefnos Chigamula K200, 000 Under-12 Area 49 League.<\/p>\n
Mwenda said the future of Malawi\u2019s football is in the hands of the youngsters.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvesting in football at grassroots is very important because it is key in securing sustainable and strong future for Malawi football. We need to focus much on building the foundation than the roof,\u201d Mwenda said.<\/p>\n
He also emphasized that it would be important for each district across the country to have a youth league.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Fam, we urge all areas to emulate what some people in Area 49 are doing to develop the game at grassroots. It would be good if we have youth leagues in all the areas across the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
During the launch, Mwenda also donated K50, 000 to go towards administration of the league in the area.<\/p>\n
On his part, Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Regional Sports Officer (Centre), Isaac Phiri, hailed Chigamula for sponsoring the league.<\/p>\n
A total of 13 primary schools in Area 49 will compete in the league. Apart from sponsoring the Under-12 League, Chigamula also sponsors Central Region Pool League and a Lilongwe City Centre Football trophy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
