{"id":30929,"date":"2016-08-30T10:32:01","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T08:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=30929"},"modified":"2016-08-30T10:32:04","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T08:32:04","slug":"my-wedding-lesson-to-youth-chief-kyungu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/30\/my-wedding-lesson-to-youth-chief-kyungu\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018My wedding lesson to youth\u2019\u2014 Chief Kyungu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paramount Chief Kyungu of Karonga says his upcoming wedding ceremony stands to demonstrate to young people in the country on the need to follow proper formalities of getting into matrimony.<\/p>\n<p>He says marriage is a covenant, hence the need to treat it with utmost seriousness.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on his behalf, spokesperson for the organising committee, Undule Mwakasungula, said yesterday that as a custodian of culture and tradition, the Ngonde supreme leader seeks to denounce bad cultural practices through action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung people need not rush into marriage. They should take their time to find, a life partner. Once found necessary procedures should be followed,\u201d said Mwakasungula, who disclosed that the bridegroom-to-be is a strong advocate against child marriages.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the day also serves as a platform for revival of the Ngonde culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMind you the Paramount Chief Kyungu is a modern traditionalist. Much as he is the custodian of our culture, he is striving in modernising the culture and getting rid of bad and evil cultural practices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kyungu, whose reign spreads across Karonga and Chitipa district, will on Saturday, September 3, 2016, exchange matrimonial vows with his fianc\u00e9 Rhoda Banda, a Child Protection Officer at Karonga Police Station.<\/p>\n<p>Church officiation will be held at Kasoba Church of Central African, Presbyterian (CCAP) which will be followed by a traditional reception at Dumila in the same area.<\/p>\n<p>On his big day, Kyungu brings on display traditional dances such as Mapenenga, <em>Ndolo, Chioda <\/em>and others which espouse the Ngonde ethos.<\/p>\n<p>Mwakasungula said the ceremony will, on the other hand, be a launch pad for various activities of the Karonga Cultural Heritage group towards preservation of culture.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, the outspoken traditional leader hatched an idea of an annual cultural festival to celebrate the Ngonde culture like the Lhomwe and the Jele Ngonis of Mzimba do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the Chief\u2019s ambition to modernise and preserve the Ngonde culture which currently faces Tanzanian influence. Whatever will be showcased on the day is a step towards such direction,\u201d Mwakasungula said.<\/p>\n<p>Born Clement Mwakasungula, Kyungu, who is the third in the Mwakabanga, dynasty, holds a Bachelors degree in Humanities from La Trobe University Melbourne Australia and a Master\u2019s Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Monash University, Victoria in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>He is also an expert in democracy and governance and who sits in various boards of statutory entities in the country including the National Aids Commission (Nac) where he is the Chairperson.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paramount Chief Kyungu of Karonga says his upcoming wedding ceremony stands to demonstrate to young people in the country on the need to follow proper formalities of getting into matrimony.
