{"id":30912,"date":"2016-08-30T10:16:48","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T08:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=30912"},"modified":"2016-08-30T10:16:51","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T08:16:51","slug":"china-launches-own-aircraft-engine-maker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/30\/china-launches-own-aircraft-engine-maker\/","title":{"rendered":"China launches own aircraft engine maker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China has launched its first aircraft-engine manufacturer in an attempt to wean itself off Western suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>The state-owned Aero-Engine Group of China was created by combining a group of existing aircraft-engine companies, according to local media reports.<\/p>\n<p>It has about 50bn yuan ($7.5bn) in registered capital and will develop both military and commercial engines.<\/p>\n<p>China already makes its own planes, but has struggled for decades to develop engines that meet global requirements.<\/p>\n<p>China currently buys its commercial aircraft engines from General Electric and United Technologies\u2019 Pratt &amp; Whitney. China\u2019s military jets uses Russian-made engines.<\/p>\n<p>President Xi Jinping called the new creation of the new company a \u201cstrategic move\u201d aimed at developing China\u2019s reputation as a global aviation power, Xinhua news agency said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese government, as well as the Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC) and Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (Comac) are investors in the new firm.<\/p>\n<p>AVIC makes military jets and helicopters while Comac produces China\u2019s bigges t domestically-produced passenger plane, the C919.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China has launched its first aircraft-engine manufacturer in an attempt to wean itself off Western suppliers.
