{"id":3091,"date":"2015-05-27T08:37:11","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T08:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=3091"},"modified":"2015-05-27T08:37:11","modified_gmt":"2015-05-27T08:37:11","slug":"soldier-composes-song-for-girl-child-education-promotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/05\/27\/soldier-composes-song-for-girl-child-education-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"Soldier composes song for girl child education promotion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned musician and Parliamentarian Lucius Banda with support from mobile network service provider TNM has composed a song which is aimed at promoting girls education.<\/p>\n<p>In a bid to support increased access to education by girls, TNM is offering free access to the theme song for the \u2018Send Your Girls to School\u2019 done by the legendary musician.<\/p>\n<p>The theme song has been developed into a caller tune which TNM customers can download for free.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSend Your Girls to School\u201d project is a brainchild of Britain\u2019s Ambassador Michael Nevin\u2019s wife, Sawako in collaboration with Lucius Banda.<\/p>\n<p>TNM Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager, Limbani Nsapato said the company decided to extend this to its customers as one way of promoting girl education in Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGirl child education is one of pillars that TNM cooperate social responsibility policy so to support this initiative, TNM will offer its customers a chance to use the song as their caller tune at a free charges\u201d said Nsapato.<\/p>\n<p>He said apart from this offer, TNM also supported the initiative for the production of the song to the tune of K1 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTNM is committed to see our child sail through with their education that is why we have a number of initiatives that directly support girl child education\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nsapato said TNM supports 20 girls in 11 public secondary schools with tuition and upkeep allowances, the initiative which aims to help accelerate access to education for underprivileged girls.<\/p>\n<p>In her remarks Send Your Girls to School\u2019 Project Team Leader Sawako Nevin commended TNM for the offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTNM has offered us a good platform to raise awareness on girl child education and we are optimistic that this partnership will go a long way in ensuring that this message is put across on the importance of girl child education\u201d said Nevin.<\/p>\n<p>She added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2012\/13, the completion rates of primary education were 57 percent boys and 47 percent girls which remains almost the same over the past five years, with girls\u2019 rate consistently lower than boys\u2019 by 10 percent .<\/p>\n<p>Inequalities in girls\u2019 educational opportunities need to be solved as they are causing early marriage, early pregnancy, severe poverty for women, population upsurge and less economic development for entire communities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the legendary musician yesterday released three singles \u2018Nthungululu,\u2019 \u2018Ndililabe,\u2019 and \u2018Sagona,\u2019 as he prepares to release his latest Thank You album.<\/p>\n<p>The 18th album will be released end next month.\u2014 <strong>Additional information by Sam Banda Jnr<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned musician and Parliamentarian Lucius Banda with support from mobile network service provider TNM has composed a song which is aimed at promoting girls education.
