Malawi\u2019s social, economic and political ills have prompted the creation of yet another political grouping dubbed Transformation Alliance (TA).<\/p>\n
The alliance has former information minister during the People\u2019s Party administration, Moses Kunkuyu, as its interim leader.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press briefing to unveil the grouping, Kunkuyu repeatedly used the words \u201ctime has come for change,\u201d calling on young people who form the country is largest population and all well-meaning Malawians to reflect on their future which he said has been delayed by the \u201cselfish and greedy people\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe realise that many Malawians have given up on their dreams and ambitions. There is a terrible toning down of expectations. Hope has evaporated from their lives, giving way to a bitter, cynical reconciliation with reality. We can\u2019t blame the status quo for we lack an edge and positive drive to push us forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut one thing we must not accept as a nation is to surrender to our current political and economic calamities. The future will haunt us, our children mock us and time curse us for not doing anything to reverse the present rot, we have the energy and age to make the change,\u201d Kunkuyu said.<\/p>\n
He said for the past 52 years, Malawi has been a terrible nation to live in due to people\u2019s worship of elected leaders giving them room to oppress and abuse the governed poor.<\/p>\n
He has, however, called on people, especially the youth to wake up from their \u201cdeep slumber\u201d and position themselves to avoid more abuse.<\/p>\n
\u201cTomorrow won\u2019t come changed as we wish if we don\u2019t rise now. Now is the time, things must change. With strong passion to liberate Malawi from the bondage of abusive political jaws and perpetual abject poverty, we announce the birth of a political movement trading under Transformation Alliance,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
Kunkuyu said the movement centres on nurturing of the youth for leadership to safeguard the future Malawi, arguing leaders with a better background and understanding of the country\u2019s political and economic dynamics have potential to bring the change Malawians desire.<\/p>\n
\u201cMalawians are fed up with costly leaders. Malawi should groom its future leaders beginning now. Presidency must not be a retirement package for some individuals. People who have no life after Statehouse see no purpose of safeguarding the future. The future of Malawi lies not in the present but the future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Apart from Kunkuyu, one notable figure who is part of the movement is Eunice Makangala who once served as minister of gender and parliamentarian for Blantyre City Central Constituency; others are yet to be known.<\/p>\n
Kunkuyu said the movement is sourcing funds from patriotic citizens and will go to a convention to elect leaders geared for the 2019 polls if necessary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
