Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocation Education and Training Authority (Teveta), Executive Director, Ndione Chauluka, has been elected Vice President for the International Vocation Education and Training Association (Iveta) responsible for the southern Africa region.<\/p>\n
The announcement of the electoral results was made on Monday in Suva\u2014the capital city of Fiji\u2014during the Iveta executive meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel humbled for the confidence that membership has in me to represent the southern Africa Region. To me this is an honour to both Teveta as an organisation and Malawi as a nation. I will work towards ensuring that Technical and Vocational Education (Tevet) is vibrant in the region,\u201d Chauluka said.<\/p>\n
Chauluka, who will hold the position for two years, will represent Lesotho, Swaziland, Angola, Madagascar, Mozambique, Comoros, Mauritius, Botwana, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.<\/p>\n
President of the Republic of Fiji, Joji Konrote, opened the conference yesterday with a call for a mindset change in implementation of various programmes in the Tevet sector if its potential in advancing world economic development is to be realised.<\/p>\n
He said despite its potential in the creation of employment, Tevet suffers from low esteem and negative perception which he noted was affecting its attractiveness.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Fiji, we are not taking Tevet as a second choice career path. It is mainstreamed across the education spectrum. My appeal is that industries and various players in the sector must rise up to cater for the needs of both the urban and rural populations if people are to appreciate the relevance of Tvet,\u201d Joji said.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Head of the European Delegation for the Pacific, Andrew Jacobs, stressed the need for active involvement of the private sector to ensure successful implementation of Tevet.<\/p>\n
