Some 153 athletes have registered for the 2016 TNM-sponsored Cape Maclear Triathlon in Mangochi District.<\/p>\n
The two-day annual challenge will start on Friday.<\/p>\n
Event Manager, Jam Kaunda, of Mizu Foundation said all was set for the event which has attracted participants from several sports disciplines.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe expect more to come and participate in this year\u2019s event.\u201d he said about the events such as 2km Thumbi Island swim, cycling, volleyball, football, swimming and rowing.<\/p>\n
Kaunda hailed TNM for the support which has enables the foundation to hold this event for a second successive year.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a non-governmental organisation, Mizu Foundation hopes to use this event to raise funds for charity for socio-economic interventions in poor communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
TNM Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager, Limbani Nsapato, said by sponsoring the triathlon, they hope to help raise the profile of minority sports codes and promote tourism in Malawi.<\/p>\n
\u201cTriathlon is an Olympic sport. TNM would like to promote triathlon so that the country\u2019s athletes start to take the sport seriously and improve Malawi\u2019s record at the Olympics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
