Indian Sports Club (ISC) has received a timely boost ahead of a Six-Nation Cricket Tournament set for October at the Limbe venue in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
United General Insurance donated K390,000 for the maintenance of the ground which Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) has selected for the international competition.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s Sports Director and Captain, Chiraq Patel, said the donation was timely.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the 1920\u2019s, Indian Sports Club has had a rich history in hockey and cricket. Under Malawi Cricket Union, which runs a cricket academy here, we are helping in promoting the sport among the locals,\u201d Patel said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cricket Academy has over 300 eligible cricket players who are indigenous Malawians. They are being trained to become better players.\u201d<\/p>\n
Patel called on other organisations to support the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will hire professionals to maintain the ground so that it befits international standards,\u201d Patel said.<\/p>\n
UGI Business Development Manager, Atupele Mangochi, said they take corporate social responsibility seriously.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe felt that it was important to play our part because most of the members at the club are our clients. Secondly, the social part of the sport is basically where people can relax and get to know each other. By donating, we want to elevate the sport,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Mangochi, who was flanked by UGI Strategic Business Unit Manager, MacRhonius Chikuse and Accountant, Dyton Singano, pledged continued support.<\/p>\n
