{"id":30088,"date":"2016-08-17T13:19:43","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T11:19:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=30088"},"modified":"2016-08-17T13:19:43","modified_gmt":"2016-08-17T11:19:43","slug":"lawrence-katakwe-book-in-the-offing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/17\/lawrence-katakwe-book-in-the-offing\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawrence Katakwe book in the offing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Writer Lawrence Kadzitche, creator of Katakwe which has been appearing in <em>The Weekend Nation <\/em>newspaper, has revealed plans of publishing a <em>Katakwe <\/em>book.<\/p>\n<p>His move comes barely two years after Kadzitche released a <em>Katakwe <\/em>movie which he said did well on the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the copies of the movie were sold and I am happy with the response I received from the people and now I am even planning a second movie,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said having done a movie, he thought of publishing the book as part of documenting his <em>Katakwe <\/em>work.<\/p>\n<p>The writer announced the news of his intention through his Facebook page and people have welcomed the move.<\/p>\n<p>He said his plan was to have the book out before the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, <em>Katakwe Kumudzi <\/em>is a story set in modern day Lilongwe in the small village of Sinyala where Dzalanyama Forest has been depleted and is being guarded by the army.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Lilongwe River is almost dry and the threat of famine hangs over the village like a dangerous sword and that in the village, people are preparing to install a new chief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgainst this backdrop, Betina Shuga, a strikingly beautiful girl arrives in the village to visit an old friend. Katakwe, who prides himself as the village\u2019s never do good, immediately falls in love with her,\u201d Kadzitche explains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a fantastic story but let me not pre-empt everything. All I need is the support so that this book should come to light,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kadzitche said the story is set against the background of ignorance, envy, greed and jealousy &#8211; the sins that hold progress in villages\u2019 hostage and a rich background of traditional dances and customs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Writer Lawrence Kadzitche, creator of Katakwe which has been appearing in The Weekend Nation newspaper, has revealed plans of publishing a Katakwe book.
