Following Malawi Under-17 National Football Team\u2019s bronze success at the recent Cosafa Youth Championship in Mauritius, scouts for top domestic teams are gracing FMB Under-20 games.<\/p>\n
The junior Flames drew most of their players, such as Peter Banda, from the FMB League, hence the interest of Super League and Premier Division teams\u2019 officials.<\/p>\n
Griffin Saenda Jnr, who owns and coaches Griffin Young Stars, confirmed the increased presence of the scouts.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is rare to see officials and coaches from Super League and Premier Division teams watching our games. But since the junior Flames finished third, some of those officials have taken keen interest in our games,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Saenda has since cautioned his FMB League counterparts to exercise caution with the \u2018vultures\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to safeguard this talent. We need to thoroughly develop players. Furthermore, we must be on guard because some of the officials might dupe us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Maggie Chombo-Sadiki of Maggie Chombo Academy also shared similar remarks.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the junior Flames had not won the bronze medal, I don\u2019t think such officials would have been coming to appreciate the talent and our efforts,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
National Youth Football Association Vice-General Secretary, Chimango Munthali, said it was clear that the FMB League was crucial to the development of football in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the nursery for the Flames. We need to promote this league,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Recently, FMB Head of Marketing, Sylvia Mataka, said they support the junior league to nurture players for the senior national football team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
