O<\/strong>rganisers of Miss Blantyre pageant have terminated a contract with one of its partners Yanga. co from Lilongwe.<\/p>\n

The move comes at a time when the Miss Blantyre camp is set to roll out a schoolscampaign.<\/p>\n

Miss Blantyre Chairperson Daniel Ngwira, said yesterday that they have terminated the contract with Yanga.co and the company is now no longer affiliated to their operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, Yanga.co approached Miss Blantyre team for partnership and offered to have the queen as an ambassador for online education through their class Yanga project. To the contrary, Yanga.co failed to implement the project,\u201d Ngwira said.<\/p>\n

Yanga.co Chief Executive Officer, Earnest Kapeleta, said they already communicated to the Miss Blantyre management and the queen that they could not sustain the commitment purely on difficult economic times which has hit their business.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe made a pledge and one of them was to give the queen a vehicle and allowances which we did and this was even published in the media. We are currently moving in difficult times,\u201d Kapeleta said.<\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe difficult economic times which hit our business for the longest period made us<\/p>\n

never implement the Class Yanga online education campaign which we wanted an ambassador. So far, we did not commission any duties to Miss Blantyre due to the same reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said it was very unfortunate on their part and hoped that once they are back in business in future they would support Miss Blantyre again.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me also clarify that the termination was a mutually agreed decision where all parties met, discussed and resolved as such. We committed to giving the current Miss Blantyre, Chisomo Machelo, a once off stipend as a token of gratitude for the time they accorded us the priviledge to work with them,\u201d Kapeleta said.<\/p>\n

Ngwira confirmed that Yanga. co still afforded Machelo the car privilege for the months of April to June and paid monthly allowances from January to May.<\/p>\n

Ngwira lamented the current situation as very regrettable and unfortunate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe modelling industry suffers a lot of stereotypes and Miss Blantyre has pioneered restoration of such trust to modelling. Such a development somehow leaves a lot to, desired and speculate as clearly Yanga made a pledge over something they could not achieve,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ngwira said they were however, hopeful that they will attract better partners and sponsorship as they are now preparing for the next pageant to be held in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year and going forward, Miss Blantyre management will aim to strike more meaningful and fruitful partnerships that can align with our beyond beauty theme. As a strategy, we will soon announce an executive board which will be there only for strategic decisions and partnerships,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ngwira said this executive team will also guide the social and corporate activities the pageant lines up for the queen and her princesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe draw a lot of lessons from last year and this year we hope to come out big and better. So far, we have partners from last year such as BizMalawi and TechnoBrain which sponsored an IT scholarship for the queen, which she successfully completed,\u201d Ngwira said.<\/p>\n

The other partners of the Miss Blantyre are Julie\u2019s Bakery, Queen\u2019s Bakery, AXA, Premier Buses, Perpix Graphics, Mikozi and Blantyre City Council which also appointed the queen as ambassador for the Keep Blantyre Clean and Green Campaign.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
