{"id":29642,"date":"2016-08-09T12:17:42","date_gmt":"2016-08-09T10:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=29642"},"modified":"2016-08-09T12:17:43","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T10:17:43","slug":"standard-bank-commits-to-transform-agriculture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/09\/standard-bank-commits-to-transform-agriculture\/","title":{"rendered":"Standard Bank commits to transform agriculture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Standard Bank is transforming the lives of tobacco farmers through its ongoing Mlimi Alirenji promotion in which the bank is giving out farm inputs to accelerate development of agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The bank\u2019s Head of Marketing, Thokozani Unyolo, echoed Standard Bank\u2019s commitment to support tobacco production in the country when the bank handed over a baling jack to a 60 year old Kasungu farmer, Robertson Chinguwe, who emerged as one of the winners in the promotion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMalawi is an agro-based economy and tobacco is our major foreign exchange earners hence our decision to support farmers through this promotion,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Unyolo also appealed to farmers to transfer their sales proceeds to their Standard Bank account to automatically enter into the draw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a farmer goes to any Standard Bank branch on the day that their money has been transferred into their Standard Bank account, the farmer will get the best rate on the market and we will beat any other bank rate on that particular day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Chinguwe said the bailing jack will improve his returns from farming, a journey he said he started over 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to hire a baling jack from other people every year and was paying K700 per bale to get my bale stamped.
