Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League defending champions, Tigresses, have roped in five youngsters from rural areas as part of the team\u2019s development strategy.<\/p>\n
Two of the five youngsters were unused substitutes when Tigresses defeated Alliance Capital Stars 64-31 in a league game at Blantyre Youth Centre last week.<\/p>\n
Tigresses coach, Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa, said the roping in of the youngsters was a statement from the team that they are building for the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got these players from several districts. We have Catherine Khofi from Nkhotakota, Awema Chikaonda from Dowa, Rahabe Bikiel from Lilongwe, Jessie Masina from Dedza and Anastazia Chaposa from Mangochi,\u201d Chawinga-Kaluwa said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are aged 15. I have the confidence that they will grow tall. In three or four years, they will be mature to form the team\u2019s backbone. I know that they can play for up to 30 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The out-of-contract Malawi Queens coach said she would ensure that the youngsters fit into Tigresses\u2019 playing philosophy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we had sponsorship, we could have registered a youthful side to systematically and continuously expose them to pressure and competitive netball,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also have two names [of potential signings] but some quarters wanted to hijack the players, however, we will not sit and watch. We used our network to scout them and we will safeguard them until we sign them. Teams should be able to scout on their own.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
